Cant family, northumberland/Durham
« on: Monday 25 November 13 15:57 GMT (UK) »
Does anyone know what happened to the George and Dragon hotel in Morpeth? Or its address? Or the Earl Grey Hotel which seems to be next door to it in a 1956 photograph?
Also does anyone know if the John (Jack) Grantham who was ran the Star and Grand Cinema Palace in Newcastle around 1909-1911 is the same John Grantham who became Mayor of Newcastle in 1936?

The Earl Grey and the George & Dragon were in the Market Place next to the Town Hall. You can see them on the 1859 Town Plan at http://www.old-maps.co.uk/maps.html?coords=419812,585956

Thanks, Stan. It looks like a good place to do some shopping next time I'm in England.
