His place of residence is given as foffenagh, donegal ireland, and he is travelling over to butte, montana.I have found him enlisting in us army records in1917 where he again states his residence in ireland as foffenagh. I have no clear traces of him after this. Would love any assistance. Thanks

When you ask for help finding information it helps to tell us the details you already know.

Here's Owen Grant's WWI draft registration card which gives his date of birth as 12 March 1892. occupation as miner (non-employed) and birthplace as Foffagh-
https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.1.1/K8QX-3HS

There are several online trees which give his wife as Delia Mullarkey and says he was in Wilkinsburg, Allegheny, Pennsylvania in 1930. The 1930 census states to U.S. 1921.
1930- https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.1.1/XCZQ-VVZ
1940- https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.1.1/KQ45-WVY

At least one of those family trees give parents as John Grant & Nancy Blue. However, at least one other tree has his birth as 18 Nov.1894 and parents John Grant & Nancy Blieu

Just to clarify a point in your original post- the 1917 document is a draft registration card not an enlistment form. Men of a certain age range were required to register for the draft but this does not mean they actually enlisted.

Here's Owen in Irish census records-

From the 2 PMs you've sent me it seems that you think not all the details posted here are for the same person (it's best to post on the thread so everyone knows what's going on).

Now, the WWI draft registration card is for your Owen Grant- and gives his date of birth as 12 Mar.1892- an unemployed miner living in Butte, Montana: https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.1.1/K8QX-3HS

The 2nd Owen Grant you found in 1930 was born c1896 in Northern Ireland:
https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.1.1/XCDP-BW8
He died 23 July 1930 in Weimar, California (age 34 which fits with 1930 census) with birthdate given as 15 July 1896:

The Owen Grant who married Dleia was born 7 Nov.1892. Likely his details-
"Celtic" arrived N.Y. from Liverpool on 25 Apr.1921, Owen Grant, carpenter, father Ed Grant Edenkell Dundalk [Louth], resided Birmingham England, to Boston. This entry crossed off manifest but there is a manifest for the "Cedric" which arrived 10 May 1921 which lists Owen.

Here's Owen Grant's arrival through Ellis Island in 1914 https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.1.1/JJ7M-PNT

The scan of the original document on the Ellis Island site shows that Owen travelled with 4 others from Stranaclea, Illies - Charles O'Connor (30), brothers Andrew (30) and Michael McLaughlin (27) and Michael Kelly (27). They all gave their next address as Mrs. Mary Mackon, 110 E. Wilmott St. Butte, MT.

It appears that Andrew McLaughlin had previously lived in the US and was now returning with the other 4 individuals. He listed himself as "Returning brother" which implies that Mary Mackon was his sister.

In reply to the question who he was going to stay with - friend / family and address, Owen Grant 's answer was "(friend) brother Patrick Grant" at the same E. Wilmott St. address.

And here would appear to be the draft registration card for Patrick Grant in Butte City, MT https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.1.1/K8QX-3H3

Owen Grant was my second cousin three times removed and I have details on his ancestors but unfortunately do not have any more information on his whereabouts in the US.
Derry / Londonderry - McCready, McGruddy, Carlin, McShane, Wilson, Cleary, Crockett
Castlederg - Baxter, Wilson
Inishowen - Callaghan, Duffy, Blieu, Grant, Coyle
Delta County, MI, USA - Cleary
Boston - Ballou
Nova Scotia - Ballou

Just to add my two cents :)

I've done a bit of research around the 1901 Census for Foffenagh as that's where my great grandmother was born. She was a Devlin. I did it to try and figure out who was related to who.

There was an Owen Grant who was born in Foffenagh on 29 Dec 1894, baptized 11 Feb 1895. His parents were John Grant and Nancy Blue. There are various spellings of her last name. I have his birth record from Rootsireland.

He is not related to me except through various levels of marriage. It gets complicated  ::) His sister married into my great aunts family.

I always thought he was the Owen Grant that went to the USA in 1914 but I might be wrong.

Bannerman you said you had details of his ancestors...is this the same Owen as you have? If not then I need to correct some of my data  ::) :-X
