I cannot get the individual scrapbooks in F.H.M. to accept pictures in JPEG format and find it necessary to save them in another format before I can instal them - any ideas?

Due you mean Family Tree Maker (FTM) version 6?

If so, as far as I can recall you only need to supply a link to the picture file (the file path).

So if the picture files are in My Pictures then specify that folder and the picture file name.

If they have a .JPG filename extension FTM must be able to link or embed them into scrapbook.

I do mean Family Tree Maker, in trying to load a JPEG picture into scrapbook I get the message 'The file you have selected is not a supported type' After saving, as say a BMP file, the programme accepts it.

I have the FTM User Manual for version 6 open on page 169 and it states:

When you have ...

Compatible file formats include (*.BMP), (*.PCX), (*.TIF), (*.JPG) and (*.JFF).

Use this menu choice ....

Using the Insert Object command you can insert existing OLE objects into the Scrapbook.  OLE objects can include pictures, text, spreadsheets, sound clips and video clips.

Basically, you should be able to insert a .JPG object.  I am just wondering whether this is a recent problem as you are using a fairly old version of FTM, originally written for Windows 95, but still usable on Windows XP.  It could be that Windows may not recognise the .JPG file extension because it has lost a file name association.  If you double click a .JPG file name using Windows Explorer which program opens the file by default?  Is it Windows Picture and Fax Viewer?

Apologies for the delay in coming back to you and thank you for you advices, following upon your hint that FTM had lost a file name extension the programme has been reloaded and the problem appears to be solved.
