I have received this information from the family who are searching:
His wife Margaret (in Scotland) made a successful claim on his estate (as he didn't leave a Will) in December 1881 and mention is made of him owning a home in these records, although the only address details it gives is that it was located in Victoria. A newspaper advertises that his possessions were sold by auction on 27 September 1881.

The following is info about the progress of the settlement of his estate from the Victorian Government Gazette records below. From what we can see, he lived in Epsom, Sandhurst and therefore was probably involved with the Bendigo Pottery as his occupation in Scotland (where he was born and married) was that of a Journeyman Potter.
