The book I have, that I mentioned before, has some recollections as well as the transcripts of BMDs for the RC parish. I have only photocopied the BMD pages for my MIDLANE family but the biographical section quotes a letter of recollections written by Sister Mary Maurus Corney O.S.B. (dau of Charles F Corney and Susanna Bulbeck), who was brought up in the area. Her address is St Mary's Priory, Princethorpe near Rugby, and the letter is dated May, 1915.
It doesn't seem to fit the known events though.
Emsworth
Of late years there were not many Catholics there.
Mrs Goen? Holloway
Her son died young at Old Hall (or soon after he left it). a Daughter married Mr John Snook of Bedhampton, in the end she and her daughter gave up the church all together (after the new church was built) through shame!Would this be the marriage referred to? If so the writer of the letter could hardly have known these people personally although I do see a death for Maria Augusta SNOOK (b abt 1807)1889 in Chelsea London.
John Snooks, also indexed as John SNOOKE
Marriage: 9 Jul 1829, Warblington,Hampshire,England
Spouse: Mary Augusta Holloway
Did Gawen marry again?
Just curious.
