Tracey's of Dublin . . . Need your Help
« on: Tuesday 12 November 13 16:01 GMT (UK) »
Thank you for taking the time to read this.
Hoping not to make this too long but giving you as much info as possible.
Trying to trace the history prior to marriage of Louisa Mildred Tracey b. Dublin 22.2.1875. Had a sister Catherine and were orphaned following their mother's death about 1865 ish, and the death of their father in a steamroller accident. The girls were raised and worked in the home of Sir Ralph Cusack Furry Park, Dublin.
Louisa's mother was an educated woman known as a 'Bob Lady' who visited homes providing a letter writing service and we think that it was through this that the girls came to the attention of Sir Ralph.
Louisa married William Crook b. Salford 17.12.1872 (Parents William & Rachel)
1st. child Louisa Mildred b. Salford 1898. Fiver further children Rachel, William, Robert, Alice and George. Another child Edith died as a baby . . . all born Cork Ireland.
Have 1911 Irish census indicating married abt. 1897 . . . confirmed by Golden Wedding Salford 1947. Cannot find a marriage ref. in England. Had 3 possible for Dublin but a waste of 25euros.
There is an Irish court ref. in 1906 of some infringement involving a donkey. But it's the marriage certificate for Louisa & William and any history prior that we are hopeful for.
William at some time was possibly a RN Stoker attached to HM Victory Barracks Portsmouth, possibly before they settled in Ireland.
Wlliam & Louisa lived in Cork until they returned  and settled in Salford about 1920.
All help, hints and advice, greatly appreciated.
Warm regards.

If Louisa was born in 1875 her mother must have died much later than '1865ish.'

Will have a look for the marriage but could you tell us which 3 were not correct so that they can be discounted.
Away sorting out DNA matches... I may be gone for some time many years!

Hi There

Were Louisa's parents called Malcolm Tracey and Catherine Harrison ?

Is so is it this couple that you are looking for info on or just their daughter Louisa ?

Thanks Tara,
We know nothing at all about Louisa other than her date and place of birth and that she had a sister Catherine. Her mother died when she was about 8 and the rest of the history is as posted.
So anything at all would be wonderful. What led you to these names and made you think they could be the girls parents.?
Warm Regrds

I'd say Tara asked because of this baptism record from St. Nicholas' RC Church on July 09 1875
10th on the list, #874 is Louisa TRACY, DoB Feb 22 1875
(F) Malcolm TRACY ; (M) Catherine HARRISON;
Address: 26 Hanover Lane
Sponsors: William and Alicia HINCH

I don't see a baptism for a Catherine TRACY (any spelling) or a marriage for Malcolm and Catherine

However there is a death record for a Catherine TRACEY in 1882 aged 40 which ties with Louisa being aged 8; this may be worth a look
Kearney & Bourke/ Johns & Fox/ Mannion & Finan/ Donohoe & Curley
Byrne [Carthy], Keeffe/ Germaine, Butler/ McDermott, Giblin/ Lally, Dolan
Toole, Doran; Dowling, Grogan/ Reilly, Burke; Warren, Kidd [Lawless]/ Smith, Scally; Mangan, Rodgers/ Fahy, Calday; Staunton, Miller
Further generations:
Brophy Coleman Eathorn(e) Fahy Fitzpatrick Geraghty Haverty Keane Keogh Nowlan Rowe Walder

Thank you so much . .  . . . But Louisa Mildred definitely Church of Ireland. Is there a reference for that death record for Catherine Tracey? That may be promising.

There are two Catherine Tracey's buried in Glasnevin in 1882 one aged 40 in a standard grave and one aged 53 in an extended grave now comes the fun part it's anagram time again both have the exact same letters as part of their address.
