Mary MOLE - 2nd marriage?
« on: Saturday 02 November 13 16:29 GMT (UK) »
I have found a marriage for my 3x gt grandparents William (amended from an earlier post of Joseph - Sorry) Eagle & Mary Mole 28 Dec 1813 in Badingham. From the 1851 census he was 20 & she was 35 (& born in Badingham) in 1813.

But I can find no trace of any parents for Mary.... was this a 2nd marriage re her age. I have found 3 children for them - Joseph, George & William (1814, 1815 & 1823)

I have found this similar brickwall on my Cornish side, until I found that a 4x gt grandmother had married before.

What do you think?

The 1851 for Badingham shows Joseph Eagle was 55 and Mary Ann was 48 so she was too young to have married in 1813

In 1841 Joseph is 40 and Mary Ann 35 - ages were rounded down to the nearest 5yrs in 1842

Eldest son is Samuel aged 20

Did you get Mary's maiden name from one of their childrens birth certs

Apologies CaroleW 'Joseph' should have been 'William' I should have proof read this better ...Sorry! My must be my age confusing my 3x gt grandfather with my 2x gt grandfather .... That Joseph & Mary Ann, I calculate, may be brother to my 3x gt grandfather ....

There is an 1851 entry for a William Eagle aged 58 and wife is May (but probably Mary) aged 73

That gives birthyears of 1793 and 1778

In 1841 they are 45 and 55 respectively as ages were rounded down to the nearest 5yrs

There is a 15yr old William Eagle also in household

You need sight of the marriage entry to check Mary's marital status

The marriage of William Eagle and Mary Mole, on the Suffolk Marriage Index. indicates that Mary is single, the index usually states the status if widowed etc.

Fudging around looking at various things I think the name spelling may vary - have you considered Moul/Mowle etc

Found these - Southolt is just a few miles west of Badingham.

Soloman MOUL married Susanna Bridges 6 Jul 1778 Southolt St Margaret.
Susanna MOWLE (married woman) buried 19 Aug 1798 Southolt
Soloman MOWLE (wdr) married Jane Thompson 31 Dec 1798 Southolt.

Do any of the above names crop up in your family? Perhaps a check of the Southolt PRs to see if Mary could have been Soloman's daughter?

K

Interesting ....

Solomon or Susanna don't appears as names in the Suffolk family side but ...... there certainly seems to be more Moles in Southolt;

William b. c1803
Robert b. c1806 .... as in the 1871 census they are shown as widowers with their unmarried sister Jane Tompson b. c1795. So William & Robert children of the 2nd marriage?

Found an Ann Mole baptised Southolt to Solomon & Susanna 25 Dec 1780

In the 1851 census there is a Nathaniel Mole b. 1792 Southolt.

Solomon Mole b. 1760 d. 1831 Southolt
Jane Mole b. 1763 d. 1827 Southolt

Will keep digging ....

Many thanks Keziah2!  ;)
