Hi,

You could try FreeBMD birth index but for full details (mother's first name, address, etc.) you will need a copy of the birth certificate.

Hi Dicky...I think I have found the person that you are looking for but we are not allowed to give personal details of the living here so I have sent you a P.M.

made a mistake, it was 1946 that the baby would have been born.
the bmd records don't show the mothers name so if the birth records are kept in the
records office and someone could have a look for me it would be great.
thanks for the help so far.

Dicky

The only Clayton birth that I found on Ancestry with a maiden name of Clayton was the one that I sent you in a PM ...which you didn't acknowledge  :-\  It's not possible to find this information at the records office...if it's not show on freebmd or Ancestry then you can only gain that information by buying the certificate...The child may also have been adopted which would complicate your search further.

The mother's maiden name is shown on freebmd after 1911

http://www.freebmd.org.uk/cgi/search.pl

If you type in Surname Clayton and Mother's surname Clayton 1945-1947 it brings up three names which I can't mention here as they could still be living...but none are for the year 1946.

hi carol
thanks for your help, I have looked up those but will be expensive to send for all the certificates,
I was hoping their might be copies of birth records there.
I might ring the G R O and see if there is anyway they can come up with any shortcuts.

I don't think there is any other way round it without a Christian name unfortunately...maybe you could put an advertisement in the hull daily mail newspaper appealing for help in tracing your sibling.
