Mystery Man
« on: Friday 01 November 13 06:39 GMT (UK) »
Wondering whether anyone could help shed some light on a second husband of Elizabeth Sarah BOUCHER (nee Ellis).  On the 1881 census Elizabeth Boucher is living in St Paul Deptford with her children and is a widow (husband William Boucher appears to have died in 1879).  On the 1891 census Elizabeth is still a widow living in St Paul Deptford but her surname has changed to COVER and remains that until her death in 1923.  I have searched Ancestry & free BMD for a marriage and not found anything and I have also looked for a possible death in the Greenwich area for anyone with the  surname of COVER between 1882 and 1891.  Elizabeth Boucher/Cover changed addresses between 1881 and 1891 but still remained within the Deptford parish. Would love any clues on who Mr Cover may have been.
Ancestral Recipe: Three parts English, one part Irish and a dash of German. Let it stand for 170 years and you have a 6th generation Australian.

On the London Electoral Registers, a Stephen Cover was at 5 Douglas Street, Deptford in 1891, the same address as Elizabeth on the 1891 census.

Can't see him before or after 1891 on the Registers.

There's a death in the Sept quarter of 1890 in Lewisham district of a Stephen Cover, aged 43.

Thanks Tony & Carol, an electoral record with the same address is a good sign.  I found the death you mentioned on free BMD but not ancestry. I am not familiar with London areas and I assume Lewisham is not out of the question for a death registration if you lived in Deptford.
Also Elizabeth Boucher had a daughter also named Elizabeth with a birth year of 1878 so Stephen Cover must be our man.  Thank you very much for your help.
