how do i find essex marriage records from before 1837???

i will give those ideas a go. i know there are some family history centers around somewhere here, but have had trouble getting to them when they are open. will try to get there and ahve a look.

Hi Moria,

i am looking for just about anything on KETLEY. i will be doing a whole one-name study of that family as some stage.

at the moment i'm looking for KETLEYs from Great Waltham and Broomfield areas.

i have quite a few in the tree but many of them are"possible" family based on guesses that really look right.

my earliest ansestor there would be Benjamin KETLEY m. Eleanor around 1760. great waltham.

but am having trouble with their kids marriages and families.


i don't supose i could be really cheaky and ask for a lookup???
one that has really irritated me for about 8 months is my great great grandfathers brother Thomas J KETLEY b. 1850 Broomfield.

i'm begining to wonder if the dates are correct for him.

anyway i would really appreciate any help you can give me.

Here are a few Benjamin Ketleys I have, I'm not saying they are relevant but they might be of some use.

Daniel Katloy of Benjamin & Ann, bap 6 Jul 1743 at Felsted.
Benjamin Ketley of John & Rachel, bap 9 Feb 1751 at Gt Leighs.
Benjamin Kitley of Benjamin & Eleanor, bap 6 Jan 1760 at Gt Leighs.

Benjamin Ketley married Martha Thompson 13 Oct 1789 at Felsted.

John Ketley married Rachel Curtis 26 Nov 1749 at Gt Easton, John of Gt Waltham & Rachel of Gt Easton.  I found baptisms of three of their children at Gt Leighs, including Benjamin (above).

Zachary Kettley married Katherine Brewer 16 Sep 1733 at Gt Waltham, no Benjamin involved but it is at least a Gt Waltham Ketley  .

By the way I found three other chidren of Benjamin and Eleanor baptised at Gt Leighs, you probably have them but I'll send them anyway.  I hope to answer your email tomorrow.

ALSO HIS MARRIAGE, HE MARRIED EITHER ALICE SACH OR MARTHA WRIGHT DEC QTR 1875 IN WITHAM ESSEX,  4A 666

CANNOT FIND BENJAMIN AT ALL

so sorry it has taken me so long to get back to you. this was a post that i had neglected. I am very sorry.

Thank you so much for having a look for me, and yes Thomas James i am fairly certain married martha wright. they (possibly) had kids calledCaroline, Harry ,Walter and Alfred. so i guess that must just about be correct.

Thanks findem for those references,

some of them are quite interesting. (and unsettling) the Benjamin ketley born 1860 to benjamin and eleanor i have born at Great waltham, NOT great leighs. that makes quite a difference because there is another researcher looking at great leighs and so far i have been unable to find a connection. i has to be that family though i am sure of it.

The other Great Leighs baptisms?? i would be very interested in seeing those. i fyou are still able to help there.
