how do i find essex marriage records from before 1837???

how do you find marriage records from before 1837 that are not on the IGI?

i have a quite a few gaps in that time.

any ideas appreciated

The link I posted is the details of which parish registers they have - I don't believe the actual details of the register are on line - you would have to visit/ask them to look I think.

If you email them they will look stuff up - for a charge.

Otherwise if you post up on this board what you are looking for then someone might be able to do it for you.  I have no plans to visit at the moment, but I do from time to time and there are a few others on here that do look ups there

Since you seem to be in Brisbane, have you checked what is available locally?
The LDS Family History centres have extensive collections of English records on film and fiche. You can check what is available using the Library catalogue on http://www.familysearch.org  For locations see http://www.ancquest.com/fhc_frgn.htm
Also there's the Queensland Family History Society - see http://www.qfhs.org.au/library_holdings.htm

Hi, I have another idea for you, there is a person in Essex who has his own Marriage Index and can also look up Burials for you as well. He only charges £1.00 a lookup and responds very quickly to requests. You can find his details on the Essex page of GENUKI by going to the church records section and clicking on Marriages or Burials.
