Hi there,
I'm looking for anyone with Johnson / Johnston / Johnstone etc descent who have had their DNA checked and have indicated that they have descent from Annandale in Dumfriesshire, Scotland.
Many thanks
Ian BoJo
Read your post and the replies with interest. I have traced my family history, father to father to father, etc, etc, back to John Johnstone born 1600. I am confident that my research is correct and that my ancestors are direct descendants of John.....
Extract from Medieval Families Unit (as of January 1995), 50 E North Temple St, Salt Lake City UT 84150.......
"......George, the eldest son of John Johnstone of Mylnfleld and Galabank, married in 1643 Agnes Grahame, a descendant of the Laird of Johnstone, who died in 1567....."
I have no doubt that I am descended, but why would you want DNA?
Just because someone has some traces of a particular DNA profile, it does not unequivocally prove that they came from a particular town or clan. It will prove that they are of a particular race and from a certain area, but over a 400 year timespan, you're making huge assumptions to suggest that it proves it without doubt!
I would be happy to assist if you tell me what you're looking for, providing you're not charging someone else for my information!
