Wiltshire Parish Records ?
« on: Friday 17 June 05 00:13 BST (UK) »
3 x Gt.Grandma HANNAH WEST born c 1805 is variously listed as having been born in Bath, Somerset ; Milson in Wiltshire and just Wiltshire.
I have tracked her through to her death in London in 1890 but would appeciate some help  as to how to find more on her birth. Many thanks.

Hi Emmeline, the best I can suggest is a search through the IGI records for births in Wilts.

Hi Emmeline

Have you managed to find Hannah on all the censuses? I have access to Wiltshire and Somerset for 1841 and 1851 if that would help.

When birth locations are a bit woolly I tend to look for other family members and trace them. Was West her maiden name? Did she have children? What else can you tell us about her? I'm keen to have a go looking  ;D

Best wishes

Angela

Especially looking for - Sealey, Rogers, Cannings, Box, Sheppard in Wiltshire; Virgin, Slade, Abbott, Saint, Harper, Silverthorn in Somerset; and Virgin, Tarr, Beer in Devon

And most especially the origins of William Cannings,  a Baptist, born abt 1791 in Broughton Gifford, Wiltshire

Dear Angela R - I was just about to reply when I looked to the bottom at the names you are seeking and saw SEALEY.
This was my maiden name !
Hannah WEST was married in 1830 to Henry SEALEY in Enfield, London  and Enfield was where they spent the rest of their lives.  Consequently, I have most of their census records. However, if a likely family for Hannah  should pop-up (probably Milston) I would be interested to hear.
I look forward to your reply -  bated breath !

Dear Emmeline

That is SO exciting  ;D

I was a Sealey as well but I assume (having quickly looked up a few censuses) that you come from the Edmonton Sealeys. I'm firmly descended from the ones in Charlton, Wiltshire and am still hoping to find a link with the Edmonton ones!

It's a pity but I was in the Wiltshire Record Office last week - I could have had a look through a few parish records for Hannah. If you haven't got any further when I next go, I'll have a hunt for her then.

Regards

Angela

Dear Angela - What fun. It would be a great thrill if at some stage you were able to look for  Hannah West for me when next in Wiltshire. As I am in New Zealand I sometimes need an agent !  Who knows - we may yet find a link.
When I was a child in England we often stayed in Wiltshire - a little place called Box - I have happy memories of it. Hoping to hear again sometime Angela.  Kind regards.
