Thomas Gribble born around 1809. Maybe his parents were Thomas Gribble and Hester unknown.Thomas jnr began his life of crime when he was tried and convicted for "stealing lead affixed", along with 3 other men, one being Thomas Rivers who shall be mentioned later! Thomas was imprisoned for 6 months. Thomas married Hester Avery 1829 in Bristol, they had 2 children; Jesse, 1829-1830 and William born about 1830.Thomas was tried and convicted on 13/7/1830, for picking pockets and sentenced to 7 years transportation,(to New South Wales). Hester Avery then married Thomas Rivers (who was of the right age to have been Thomas Gribble's previous partner in crime). Thomas served his sentence and married Jane Irwin, also a convict, in 1848 and they continued their life of crime, according to various newspaper reports and police gazettes.
There was a William Gribble, born about 1812, who may have been a brother to our Thomas. William is mentioned in the UK Prison Hulk Registers and Letters book 1802-1849, he had been sentenced to death for highway robbery, this later changed to transportation for life. He was 18 yrs old and was received onto the ship (hulk)? Justitia moored at Woolwich, 14th September 1830. He was transported to VDL aboard the Red Rover. His parents may have been Thomas Gribble and Hester unknown. They'd had a mass christening 16th Nov.1823 for 7 children, but not Thomas who was possibly already off training to be a criminal!
Hoping someone else is researching this family, would love to find more information I'm so intrigued by their story.
