Hi, Margp

I'm really grateful for the interest shown in this one.

I know that some of the clan departed for Canada, but I don't think that this Alexr S did. The one I'm looking for was born in Leslie, Fife. I'm afraid Islay is on the other side of Scotland.

However, thank you for the info on the deaths of Caroline and Alexander at Rye. I suspected that they died round about these dates because they don't show up on the 1881 census.
I wish that the English BMDs were as available as some other countries are.

Jim
Hi Jim, you can order the BMD'S from the GRO they are £9.25 and take abt 7 days to arrive

Hi. Margp

I've got Alexander's birth details, thanks. :) I'm looking for confirmation that the man in Sussex is the one I'm after.
Why can't GRO make their records available on-line like GROscotland does? Through ScotlandsPeople  it's so simple and immediate.

Regards
Jim

Hi Jim

It is hard to say if the parents of Alexander Sinclair b 1804 are Alexander and Agnes, as you say he does disappear from Scotland, also a couple of Alexander's b 1804 children are  named after his siblings David and George I wonder if the J is James, I would have thought that Alexander would have served an Apprenticeship, if he was a Master Tailor, are there any records for that you could check, for that either in Scotland or England, as he may have left Scotland to do his Apprenticeship

Hello, Margp

I don't know how I ended up on the Surrey board when I'm making enquiries about Sussex. Apologies all round. It must have been the fault of my typing finger. Maybe the moderator will kindly move this. I'd do an embarrassed smilie but I can' t seem to get them to work either.

However, some nice points you make, Marg. Yes, Alexander did have brothers George (elder) and David (younger). His third and youngest brother was James. I've found out that Alex's son George's middle name is James, and son Alexander's middle name is John - possibly for Caroline's father John.

Thanks for the idea about apprenticeship. I'll research that!

Jim
