Desperately seeking Butterfield Jaques.
« on: Saturday 26 October 13 17:48 BST (UK) »
Am stuck with the parents of this man as he is not sure where and when he  was born.
1861 census he says that he was born about 1832 in Thorne, Yorkshire.
1871   ...                                          ....                             ....
1881   ...                                                     1827 in Barton, Lincolnshire
1891   ...  ditto.
He died 13 May 1894 at 8 Sykes Street, Platts Common.(near Barnsley) as I have a copy of death cert.
He married Harriet Robinson 26 Nov 1855 at Royston (Barnsley)
I cannot find anything about him before the marriage. His father was Timothy, a labourer.

Can any one help please?
Regards,
Josie.

With a name like that, I wouldn't have thought it too hard too find him. But after a quick search, there is nothing for Butterfield or Timothy.
I am Australian, from all the lands I come (my ancestors, at least!)

Pine/Pyne, Dowdeswell, Kempster, Sando/Sandoe/Sandow, Nancarrow, Hounslow, Youatt, Richardson, Jarmyn, Oxlade, Coad, Kelsey, Crampton, Lindner, Pittaway, and too many others to name.
Devon, Dorset, Gloucs, Cornwall, Warwickshire, Bucks, Oxfordshire, Wilts, Germany, Sweden, and of course London, to name a few.

Hi Josie,  I was interested to see another vainly searching for Butterfield.   I'd hoped by unearthing details of his 9? children I might find more, but nothing yet.  His daughter Ellen is our ancestor - we the one twig that now in Australia.

I agree with the other respondent - everyone says - No worries, he'll be easy to locate.

Happy to share what I have. Regards Heather17

Is Butterfield his first name and Jacques his surname?

Sorry Heather, I added the c to Jaques in error.  :)

Have you tried the usual spelling variations, eg Jakes, Jacks. Alternatively has he been mistranscribed as Jaques Butterfield?

Thorne is very close to the Lincolnshire border!

Burton Upon Stather is less than 20 miles away.
Garrad (Suffolk, Essex, Somerset), Crocker (Somerset), Vanstone (Devon, Jersey), Sims (Wiltshire), Bridger (Kent)

A few things you could check out

1) Francis JACQUES m. Eliz BUTTERFIELD Bolton-Upon-Swale, York 1784 - It would not be uncommon to find they have a grandchild named Butterfield JAQUES
2) Timothy JAQUES m. Ann HIGGINSON Hanmer, Flint, Wales 1768 - Did they have a child called Timothy?
3) Mary JACQUES b.1830 m. Knocktopher, Kilkenny, Ireland daughter of Timothy JACQUES - Did Timothy emigrate?
4) Timothy JAQUES b.1836 New York - Did Timothy emigrate?
5) Timothy JAKES m. Sarah Otter 1816 Maxey, Northants - Have you checked the baptisms for this area as I don't think they are listed on the IGI.
