Job Bunting - USA Passenger List ?
« on: Saturday 26 October 13 09:15 BST (UK) »
Hi,

I am trying to find out the ship, port of departure etc.. that Joseph Bunting, from Tansley, in Derbyshire may have used when he left his native County, and emigrated to the USA in 1844.

I know that he eventually settled in Albion Prairie, Dane County, in the State of Wisconsin.

From information that I have just discovered, although he arrived in America in 1844, it wasn't until 1848 that he formally appeared before the District Court Judge to sign his Declaration of Intent, thereby severing all ties to his citizenship in England. The Declaration of Intent that I found through Family Search has the following information:

He emigrated from England in June 1844

He arrived within the limits of the United States in July 1844

The Port of Arrival appears to have been New York

I have looked on the Castle Garden site but can't find anything about him there. I would be grateful if anyone can point me to where I might find details of the ship he travelled on, port of departure. If I can find a passenger list it might give me a clue as to who his travelling companions may have been, as several of his boyhood companions apparently emigrated at the same time.

Yours hopefully,

Alan

Nothing coming up so far, the Find A Grave memorial is specific with an immigration date of August 1844.

FamilySearch is especially good for Wisconsin records, most of the Wisconsin Genweb pages are useful, and the state historical archives are also good [fortunately for me since I have so many Wisconsin roots].
