Seven Hawick Men

A photo taken in Hawick about 1912/14. The chap with the folded arms is known to me (George Douglas), but can anyone identify any of the other six, and comment on what the occasion might have been. Thanks.

Looks like the Hawick Cornets but no George Douglas shown as Cornet during this war period.t
Being 7 it could be a rugby 7 but with flower buttonholes its more like the Common Riding principals.

Thanks Alan,
But likely none of the above - my grandfather (George Douglas) wasn't a horseman and didn't play rugby. His contribution to Hawick was as a long-time cornet player in the Saxhorn Band. My best bet re: photo was maybe my grandfather's wedding which was in 1914 - tho' I was puzzled at so many "best men". I don't know if "Groom and supporters" was a convention of those times, - and worthy of a special photo? Jim

Your George Douglas resembles John Douglas who played the trombone in the hawick saxhorne band.

Well spotted ENERIJOHN - John (my uncle) was George's son. In fact John too played the cornet for many many years in the Band, as does Kenny, John's son who continues the tradition to this day. Hoping that sometime someone will identify one of the other Hawick men of 100 years ago. Thanks for message. Jim
