Staplegrove parish records - COUCH/LIGHTFOOT
« on: Thursday 24 October 13 11:54 BST (UK) »
I am trying to find the details of a marriage between Violet Mary Couch and Richard J Lightfoot, specifically his parents.    According to the bmd index, they married in October qtr 1913 in Taunton RD, and family knowledge says this was probably Staplegrove parish church.

Would some kind person be able to check the Staplegrove parish registers for that period and see if the marriage was there and if there are any details that might help me to pin Richard down?

Many thanks
Ursula

Can't help with the lookup but there is only one birth for a Richard J Lightfoot in the same timescale as that of Violet

Births December qtr 1893   Richard Johnston Lightfoot    Wigton  10b 543

Baptism  https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.1.1/J7FH-WK9

Just to bear in mind when marriage details are known

Thank you Carole and Westmoreland - I have no idea where Richard came from, so this is certainly worth bearing in mind.  All we know about him is that he 'died young' as Violet subsequently married her sister's widower, William Hobbs, in 1926.

Their last child seems to have been born in 1922 in Taunton but the only death is in 1924 for a Richard Lightfoot aged 28 in Barrow in Furness.  There is an 1895 birth on freebmd for that Richard - no middle name.

As the 1926 marriage was in Taunton, there is nothing to suggest the family moved outside that area

So - Richard may have been a mariner or a soldier and died outside England.  He does not appear on the 1911 index

Hi Carole - That Richard does seem to be the only likely candidate.  If if is him, he was born in Barrow so presumably was at home with his parents when he died but I couldn't see an reason why he might he been down in Taunton to meet and marry Violet, and then go back hom - hence hoping that details from their marriage certificate might confirm or deny this!

No-one in the family knows anything about him (didn't even know his first name until I looked up the marriage index) except that he died young and he was 'a very nice man that all the aunt's [sisters] were sad to see die'!
