Balmain South Cemetry
« on: Sunday 20 October 13 14:19 BST (UK) »
Looking for the final resting place for DOROTHY JEAN BUTCHER. Believe she was under 1 year when she died in 1894, in Sydney NSW.

Parents were Samuel and Kate Butcher.

Believe she is buried in the Balmain South Cemetery.

Dorothy was born on 24th February 1894 in South Australia.

Would appreciate any help finding her final resting place.

The NSW BDM online index has
Dorothy J BUTCHER, parents as Samuel and Kate, with her death registered in the Balmain South district, in 1894.  The Ref 2571.   A copy of an official transcription of that dc would confirm where the deceased was buried, as well as providing the cause of death, and the details of the deceased and her parentage.

Official transcriptions are cheaper and arrive quicker and as email attachments.

Thank you both for your information.

Yes that is the right person. Have ordered her death certificate online, which will provide me with the relevant details.

Have downloaded the details from Rookwood Cemetery website. Just have to work out what the codes mean. They are not easy to decipher.

Cheers and big thank you

A map with your BUTCHER grave marked is available on the Rookwood Independent website not the new Rookwood website
http://www.rookwoodindependent.com.au/index.php?option=com_wrapper&view=wrapper&Itemid=11

Read the instructions before searching for her burial record.

Search for her burial record and click on map and wait.  You can zoom to the location.

The new amalgamated Rookwood General trust site is working on providing grave locations.

There is no headstone or marker on the BUTCHER grave according to the Rookwood Cemetery inscriptions.

OC means Old Cemetery. If you look at the map you will see that both the new and old have a 4B.

The New is at the top right corner of the map and the Old is bottom left.
