(I don't ask those questions, or somebody complains ... ;) )

So maybe to consolidate, what we are really looking for is what became of Laura Lilian Hutchinson after she left her daughter Margaret in the care of her mother Elizabeth.

Margaret was born 1919, no father named on birth certificate.
Laura's birth was registered Sept quarter 1902 in West Ham.

If Laura lived until 1970, her full name and exact date of birth (assuming it was known to the person who gave the info) should be on her death record.

So one way of finding the death of a woman without knowing her surname is to search the deaths index for someone with the given names and date of birth of the person we want. Then see whether there is a marriage that explains the surname, for the person we are looking for.

I tried ... but didn't find anyone who seemed to match a birthday in June-September 1902.
However, it is not uncommon for people born that long ago for the info on their death certificate to be slightly wrong. What sometimes happens is that the birthday (day and month) are correct but the year is out by one or two. (That would have happened for my grandfather, if he hadn't lived to 65 and had to get his birth certificate to claim pension ... and found he was really 64.) And of course the other obvious possibility is that she died before 1970.

But I would definitely recommend getting Laura's birth certificate to have that information and see whether it found anything. If she lived to 1970, it should do.

One possibility always is that a married woman formed a partnership with another man but they were never able to marry, but her death was registered in his surname because that is the name she was known by.

And of course, obviously, the only way to find out whether Laura Lilian Hutchinson married George W F Green is to get the marriage certificate.

A George William F Green born in 1900 in West Ham would certainly be a match for Laura born 1902 in West Ham, but only the certificate will say.

A George William F Green died in Enfield in 1980. His death record should show an exact date of birth but it doesn't; it just gives his age as 82. That is a possible for the death of the George born 1900 in West Ham (and there is no other birth for that name that matches that death). If the marriage certificate shows that Laura married the 1902 George, the death certificate could give a family member's name.
