LONEY family
« on: Sunday 13 October 13 04:06 BST (UK) »
I'm interested in any additional information on the family of George Loney and Jane Troughton of Richhill Armagh. My Great Grandfather was Isaac Loney their son born 1843. He had a brother Absalom b. 1842 that emigated to Australia and I believe the oldest son William b. 1841 stayed at home. There was three other family members that went to New Zealand together followed by a half sister and the last child Morrison Loney became a furniture maker in Richhill. My family tree is on ancestry.com.

Welcome to Rootschat  :)

"Any additional information" is quite vague and may mean that we spend time searching for and posting details you already have. It would help if you could explain exactly what you have and what you are looking for.

For example, I searched PRONI Will database for 'Loney' & 'Armagh' and found this- "Loney Robert Morrison of Killicomain Portadown county Armagh cabinet-maker died 11 January 1937 at Lurgan Hospital Lurgan county Armagh Administration Belfast 3 March to Ann Loney the widow. Effects £840 4s." You may have found this, and other relatives there, but I have no way of knowing.

Thanks for your advice, but I am trying to be honest with my question. I could ask lots of simple question, but I think that may take up much more of peoples time. The fact that you have found information that I already have is one thing, but if you expanded in the facts by knowing the people it would have been an advantage.
This is the first time I have been on Rootschat surely the questions are going to be broader initially and as information comes in, the questions will be more direct. It's like casting a net and then responding to what is there.
Thanks again for your comments.
John

I'm not sure you entirely understand what I was trying to say. There certainly are times when you have so little detail to start with that only a general query is possible but it sounds as though you have done a bit of research already and have some information.

There are probably lots of details we could find on your family but unless we know what you have (and are looking for) it would obviously be a waste of time. Not sure what this bit means "but if you expanded in the facts by knowing the people it would have been an advantage" unless you are simply hoping to find living relatives- in which case you could have said so.

Lots of resources have come online in the last few years so I suggest you check them to see if you can find more-
1) PRONI's website- Will extracts, Valuation Revision Books, etc.
2) directories
3) 1901 and 1911 census http://www.census.nationalarchives.ie/search/
4) civil registration index and other Irish databases https://familysearch.org/search/collection/list#page=1&countryId=1927084
These are just a few but have a look at ARMAGH RESOURCES at the top of this board and the board IRELAND RESOURCES for lots more
