Wigan Workhouse Baptism 1819
« on: Saturday 12 October 13 10:18 BST (UK) »
Good morning,

I'm looking for the birth of John Kennerdale c1820 Wigan.

There is an entry for a John Kennedy, mother Elizabeth, Wigan Workhouse Dec. 1819 and wondered if anyone could possibly look up the original register please?

Needless to say, the Kennerdale name has been transcribed/mistranscribed in just about every record, many different spellings, including Kennedy, so this might be my man! On his marriage cert. in 1846 the register gives father's name as 'late' so I assume he is illegitimate, and there is a Betty Kennerdale born 1798 to this very small family group in Wigan who could be his mother.

The original document might present a clue?

Many thanks
Judith

Thank you for that. Another possibility to rule out the other possibility! Bears more investigation certainly.

Hi,

Is this the John K(i)nnerdale that married Jane Ward in Preston in 1846?  If it is then he was only 20 on his marriage, and on the 1861 census in Lancaster aged 35 born Wigan C.1825/6.

Thank you for looking! It is the same one, but as there are no baptisms/no sign of him anywhere between 1819 and 1825, I'm looking at anyone who comes within ten years prior to his given age. I have had too many ancestors who either have no idea how old they were or taken a few years off of their actual age!

kind regards
