he was married to a Christina brunton 26/5/1878 to 1925  they had a daughter Christina 1900 to 1978

Hi ,

The marriage certificate should give you his parents details(married 1895 Canongate Midlothian ?).
Some trees have his parents as Peter Ferguson(1854-1900) and Susan Fitzpatrick Reilly(1855-1928).

thanks but how does the records say that William fergusson is my great grandfather the record does not give my grandmother Christina fergusson.
also I know that my William fergusson had two families  his mistress had a family with the children around 20 to 25 years younger than my grandmother ( his mistress family my grandmothers sister her grandson is a famous actor stared in the main role of the patriot and harry potter

What you need to do is go to www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk and buy 30 credits for £7. Use one credit to find the marriage certificate of William Ferguson and Christina Brunton, and another 5 credits to view and download that certificate. It will tell you the full names and ages of both sets of parents, and how old they were when they were married.

Then use 6 more credits to find and download the marriage certificate of William's parents, and 6 to find and download the marriage certificate of Christina's parents. These will tell you the names of all four of William's and Christina's grandparents, and you should still have some credits left.

Do not believe anything you find on an online tree until you have seen the original document to confirm the information.

William, age 19, is the son of Peter Ferguson, a mason and Susan Fitzpatrick. He married 01 Nov 1895 in Edinburgh Christina Brunton, age 17, dau of John Brunton, a quarryman and Christina McCracken, McLauchlon...(?) both deceased. [marriage cert]

William was born 06 Oct 1876 to Peter Ferguson and Susan Reily of 1 Fleshmarket Close High St , Edinburgh in the district of St Giles. [birth cert]

Peter Ferguson, age 20, bachelor and Susan Riley, age 19, spinster, married 13 Sep 1873 at St. Mary's Chapel, Edinburgh. He was the son of William Ferguson and Julia Duffy previously Ferguson M.S. Parker. She was daughter of Hugh Reilly and Agnes Fitzpatrick previously Reilly M.S. McInainey(?) [marriage cert]

It appears that William's marriage cert is error when his mother is named as Susan Fitzpatrick, somebody confused her maiden name with the other married name of William's grandmother Agnes.

According to the 1881 census Peter was born in Airdrie (Lanarkshire). I couldn't find a record of his birth but did find Thomas Ferguson born 14 October 1863 to William Alexander Ferguson and Julia Parker in Edinburgh. [OPR] According the 1861 census William A Ferguson was born 1822 Midlothian

Julia Duffy, age 45, widow of William Ferguson, comedian(?) and Michael Duffy, engine keeper died 24 Mar 1873. No parents listed. [Death Cert]

William died between the 1861 census and the death of Julia in 1873 but I could not find a record. He is probably the William Alexander Ferguson born 27 February 1820, Edinburgh to William Ferguson and Margaret Monro [OPR].
