I don't appear to have had any updates.   Windows 7 on mine.

My OH has Windows 7 but his PC is set for automatic updates which are installed when he turns off his PC, but he hasn't had any over the last couple of days. I've updated and installed all mine and with superfast broadband it took about 20 minutes.

Perhaps this is the reason for the multiple updates.

My Windows 7 didn't update automatically either though it is set to do so, I had 21 plus 6 optional.

Only had 7 on XP PC.

My computer (XP) normally does any updates during the day,last night just before bed it decided to do 18 of them. It took ages to upload them and it kept telling me not to switch off it would do that for me.

I ended up coming back down to check that it had switched off 30 mins after going to bed.

Stooopid thing  ::)

I have always just turned the monitor off and gone to bed - the computer will just switch itself off after the updates.

That is exactly what I did,but I could still hear it whirring 20 minutes later.
So after a further 10 mins I went down to check that it had finally finished.
I couldn't go to sleep knowing the computer tower was still on !

Mine arrived today, 81 + 4 optional.   I took the office ones off (ok do you think?).  But it's taking forever, and slowing some sites down.   Hour and a half and still only 48% done.

Silvery: Given the number of updates offered, I would say that your computer hasn't been 'seen' by microsoft for ages? I would imagine your machine would ask to be rebooted a couple/more times before completed.
 Happy computing everyone!  8)

On the netbook there's 48.  I'll do them later, when the other lot's finished.  Which could be some time.
Do  we really need all these updates?   Or do I, considering what I do online, read the papers, come on here, email etc and things like that?  Different if it's business or something I would have thought.
