I may be naive in thinking/ hoping that I can find some good maps online that detail many Yorkshire towns and villages in Yorkshire online.  Right now I am hoping for anything from 1930 and below.  I am reading that a subscription is required now to use old-maps.co.uk but I am worried that the level of detail they allow may be mediocre.

Hi,

If you don't find anything on line www.alangodfreymaps.co.uk have maps which cover Batley 1905, Staincliffe 1906 and Dewsbury 1905. They also do one for Bingley 1905 but not sure if this will cover Eldwick.

The maps are about £2.50 each and are very good value for the money.

There's no subscription required to view the old maps web site.

I find the level of zoom now employed by the website so low that I can't even tell if they are worthwhile maps to purchase or not.  From what I have read about this it seems the website just recently changed the viewers ability to see details without a subscription to one where you have to purchase the maps.  Even more recently they introduced a subscription that allows you to see the maps more closely.
I am wondering if people have subscribed and been happy with the level of detail that they were able to do with the maps.  It is not that big of a concern however as I can always give it a try for a month and see for myself.

Regards, Bridget

Have a look at this website
http://www.oldtowns.co.uk/MapShop_yorks-OS-maps.htm

You can see a sample online for each map area. Might be able to use these rather than pay 5.99 for a download.
