I think we always keep an open mind on spellings, I was forever being "corrected" on the spelling of my own maiden name  but people make mistakes, handwriting can be mis-interpreted or can be mis-heard

Well I used the wrong terminology instead correct it should have been most common.

Anybdy who has been researching their family back could be confused by the myriad of ways they have spelt even the simplest of both Christian/First names or Surnames over the generations.
probably best to just keep an open mind
