Does anyone remember who owned the Royal Ayr Hotel back in the 1980s please? or where I can find out?

The valuation roll would tell you that. There are some online, but not from the 1980s. You would need to ask the library in Ayr, who are likely to have copies.
Never trust anything you find online (especially submitted trees and transcriptions on Ancestry, MyHeritage, FindMyPast and other commercial web sites) unless it's an image of an original document - and even then be wary because errors can and do occur.
