Hi.
I'm wondering if anyone here is researching Alexander Ross, born about 1763 in Shotts, Lanarkshire. He married Janet Gibson, and they had 9 children, including my ancestor Marion Ross, b. 1789.
I get a lot of hints on Ancestry for one Alexander Ross with parents Thomas Taylor Ross & Isabella Urquhart. He is also listed as married to Janet Gibson in a lot of the same trees. (In others there isn't a mention of any marriage.)
Thomas Taylor Ross and Isabella Urquhart leave for Canada around 1785, and their son Alexander seems to have either gone with them or followed later on, as he is listed as dead and buried in Ontario, Canada in 1852.
Here starts my problem.. In practically all the trees his parents are listed as Thomas Taylor Ross and Isabella Urquhart. So, without doing any further research I thought that this might be correct. But there is no mention of Janet Gibson or any children, and he is listed as married to a Mary McLean on his headstone in Canada, without her really being mentioned as his wife in any tree..
I'm confused. Is this Alexander Ross the Alexander Ross I'm looking for, or has the majority of the people researching this person just pieced together two different families? Maybe no one has actually found Alexanders parents for all I know.
Sorry for the long post, but I'm hoping someone on here is researching the same family and can shed some light on this puzzle of a family.
