Searching for George Johnston
« on: Monday 30 September 13 21:01 BST (UK) »
Hi.  I am slowly compiling a family tree, but have hit a big of a snag when it comes to my great-grandfather.  His name was George Johnston, and he was born in Canada.  His family, as far as I can ascertain, was from Ireland (and before that, Scotland).  He was married to my great-grandmother, Ivy Jean McMillan, and had three daughters.  Then, one day, he left.  He apparently died in Ontario, Canada when I was a toddler.  Unfortunately, my grandmother (who kept all family records in her head) has passed away and I am stumped about how to find any records for George.  If anyone could please point me in the right direction, I would greatly appreciate it.  It seems that he was living in Manitoba around 1906, and was born in 1889.  Thank you for any assistance!

In the Drouin records there is a marriage on 03 July 1920 that took place at the Presbyterian church of Saint Andrew Westmount Quebec.
Marriage between George Robert Johnson, s/o George T. Johnson and Katherine Ford, farmer of South Durham, Quebec and
Ivy Jean McMillan, d/o John McMillan and Jean Giffen.
The bride and groom signed and witnesses were Hazel and Myrtle McMillan.    This marriage record seems to be linked to your family if your Ggrandmother was born in Winnipeg in 1890 and had twin sisters born in British Columbia.  On the 1911 census John and wife Jean are living in Calgary with daughters Ivy Jean, Love Mytle and Joy Hazel.

Thank you so very much!  You have filled in quite a few blanks with your reply, and given me more data to search through.  I appreciate it!
