Thanks Sandra. Now I know James and Helen Lauder were still alive and in NY during WW2.
Do you know how I could find out about James Calder their sponsor who had an established china business in Staten Island by the 20's?

Regards
Joyce

There is a James Calder (married) of the correct age, born Scotland and in the Staten Island area but not with a China business.
How do you know he had a China business ?

Hi dug38, I was so thrilled to receive your response to my query about Robert Yule and Mary Hay McDougall.  Are you a grandson of first wife Mary or Robert's second wife?  Is his second wife still alive as I believe, from some info I received, that she was considerably younger than Robert.
I was also very interested to know that you have info about 2 of their 4 children - S and J.  I had previous knowledge of the 4 and their DoB's. J must be 85yrs and S 88yrs if my info is correct.  Are either S or J your parent?
My relationship to Robert & Mary is as follows:
In case you did not already know, they were first cousins who were born in Peterhead nr Aberdeen in north east Scotland - Robert b.1887, Mary b.1895.  They married in Peterhead and left for Toronto, Canada in 1922.  Their mothers were sisters Jemima McDougall and Jane Buchan (ms Hutchison). Robert and Mary's grandmother was Biddy Hutchison whose sister Rachel is my g.g.grandmother.  Therefore Rachel (my g.g.granny) was the great aunt of Robert and Mary McDougall.  I hope the above is clear enough.  If you would like any more info about the Hutchisons of Peterhead, just let me know.  Meanwhile please pass on my best wishes to S & J if you are in touch with them.  I look forward to hearing from you again. Regards Joyce33

Hi Joyce33, my father was the son of Jessie(Irene) and Robert.
I was talking with Uncle J and gave him the link to the site, he should be able to give a more info.
I do know he has been in touch with the Buchan side of the family for many years and visited once or twice.
As for Robert Yule being born in Peterhead I was always told that was what he told the army when he joined underage. He never arrived in Peterhead until he was about 14.

Thanks Dug38.
Thought you might like this info I recently received from another Roots member:

"Robert Y McDougall born 9 Sept 1887 and aged 73 years, retired,  travelled Montreal Quebec to Greenock Scotland on the Empress of Britain arriving 10 October 1960.
Also travelling Jessie I McDougall born 5 th August 1915 and aged 45 years, housewife. Both going to 2 Fonthill Gardens, Aberdeen N. Intended stay 5/6 weeks."

I was intrigued to know if this was the address of a family member because it is very close to where I live in Aberdeen!  Perhaps Uncle J might know from one of his trips to Aberdeenshire to visit the Buchan family?
On the matter of Robert's birthplace, I must find out what is stated on UK census for him.
Joyce33 :)
