Death at sea, Queen Mary 1950's

Could someone tell me please, where would I find the registration of death of a british subject died/buried at sea, apparently on the Queen Mary 1956, name Freeman, male in 60's? I have tried searching Ancestry, Findmy past etc etc, but not sure if this person would be classed as overseas or whether the death would be registered in England.

the death should be in consular deaths with the death being recorded with the nearest consulate when it docked with such a big ship I would have thought they would have taken the body to be buried in the country where it docked first .

Which way was the ship travelling,into or out of the UK?  And where to/from?

What is this chap's first name?

They often write the info about a death or birth on board ship in the back page of the passenger list.

thank you very much for your help. I understand the burial was at sea en route from Southampton to New York. The first name is believed to be Wilfred, though I'm not sure this is correct, and William may be more likely.

There is a Will Freeman 1/1/1897 and a Fanchien (the NY inwards list has her as Farchion) Freeman b 27/8/97 travelling from Ston to NY on the Queen Mary on 16th August 1956.He is a lawyer and gives his last address as C/O Grosvenor House Hotel Park Lane London.

They are both USA citizens from Illinois.

Thanks Carol, but sadly not. Mine was definitely English and lived in Woolwich area of London, he was on his way to see his sister who lived in the US. I'm researching on behalf of a cousin and have a feeling the info must be incorrect, as he doesn't appear anywhere!

We need to confirm him on board the Queen Mary first before we can go looking for a his death.

Do you have his last known home address so we can see when he fell off the electoral registers?

Do you have his sisters' name so we can get a grip on his age by looking for her in the records?
