Carroll burial in July 1885 in Ireland
« on: Saturday 28 September 13 16:46 BST (UK) »
I am wondering if there is a database that would list burials anywhere in Ireland for June or July 1885. My g-grandfather Patrick Carroll died on 23 June 1885 in a Queenstown Hospital. No record of his burial has been found in that area, so I am wondering if the family would of had the body moved home for burial. Is this a possibility for this era in Ireland? Thanks for your help.

No such burial register to cover Ireland and, in fact, most churches did not keep burial registers (usually just a practice of the Church of Ireland and in some cases they only listed their members). " so I am wondering if the family would of had the body moved home for burial."- where was 'home'?
Have you tried newspaper death notices?
Away sorting out DNA matches... I may be gone for some time many years!

I haven't found home yet. A family story says Parsonstown (Birr), but I have no facts to back that up. He had just returned from the US and possibly got sick on the voyage and ended up in the hospital where he passed. He had immigrated to the US sometime in the 1850's (?) lived in the Decatur Illinois area from 1860-1885. He separated from the family was returning "home" when he passed. I have a article in the Decatur newspaper ( from US State Dept.), but it only tells about his belongings and life in the USA. If his family was unaware of his death , would there of been any Irish death notice in the paper?
Thanks for the help aghadowey!

Richard,

Iv checked the death records for North Cork through the Mallow Heritage Centre at rootsireland.ie without any success.  A large part of Co. Cork, south and west, is not covered by any Irish Family History Foundation centre.  Cork City records are being computerized by the Cork Ancestral Project which does not currently undertake research or make its records available online. For further information please contact:
e-mail: corkancestry(at)corkcoco.ie.

Hope this is of some help to you.
