St Clement's, Salford Parish Registers - Barrington
« on: Thursday 26 September 13 19:22 BST (UK) »
Hello,
I am trying to trace the father of a Rachel Worrall (born about 1825 in Clifton, Lancashire). Her mother was a Maria and she was presumably born illegitimate. In 1842 she married Roger Barrington - no father was indicated, except to say he was dead at that time.

In 1861, her daughter Maria was living with Peter and Maria Boardman (her mother, who married Peter in 1828). The younger Maria was listed as 'granddaughter'.

In 1895, as a widow, she married John Peacock (under the name 'Rachel Barrington'). On Lancashire OPC, the transcription has her father as: 'Peter Barnes, (decd.), Soldier'.

Hence I'm wondering if her father was Peter Boardman or Peter Barnes...I'd appreciate it if someone with access to the scans of the parish records could look this marriage up and see if there is any doubt about the name 'Barnes' and his profession of 'Soldier' (I've seen no indication that Peter Boardman was a soldier).

Thanks!

Yes, there is a Clifton in Salford...and that is the correct baptism.

The issue for me is if there is a possibility that the father indicated on her second marriage in 1895 is actually a Peter Boardman rather than Peter Barnes...that would require a look at the scan of the 1895 marriage record rather than a transcription. If it is clear that a Peter Barnes, soldier, is recorded, that would give me two puzzles: which Peter was actually her father, and who was Peter Barnes. Thank you for your time!

lan opc and familysearch BOTH have Peter Barnes as her father on the marriage when she was 70 ...
so IF her father Peter Barnes was also born in CLIFTON ....that baptism I have posted in 1805 in Ringley -abode CLIFTON looks to be a very likely for her dad ??

Oh I just assumed that the two websites both utilised the same transcription...

I think I just find it difficult to accept what was recorded after many years of no Peter Barnes being mentioned...this may well be something I can't ultimately resolve.
