Unmarried mothers in Chorlton, Lancashire

Hi,
I'm searching for a reason my great-grandmother Jessy was born in Chorlton rather than Malton, Yorkshire, the family home. I am 99% certain she was illegitimate, so wonder if there was a home for unmarried mums there in the 1860s.
Any help much appreciated.

Is there an address on her birth cert where she was born?
Is a father named - if not that would indicate illegitimacy.
Have you found her on 1871 census - does that give any clues? Eg is mum married, are they back in Malton ....

Thanks for this. Have found her mum on 1871 census, but not Jessy herself. Jessy's marriage certificate leaves father box blank.

What about her birth cert? Does that indicate a birth in a home of some sort?
If you give us a surname, perhaps we can look for Jessy on censuses

Could be her mother was working/living as a servant away from home and had the baby there.
How old was she when she had her?

Or she was sent away to an aunt in the country - then returned home without the baby, who had been taken in by a local childless family (or have I been reasding too mamy books!)
