marriage Alfred Bunting to Eliza
« on: Thursday 19 September 13 13:22 BST (UK) »
Hi
I wonder if anyone can please find a marriage for me.

In 1871  Alfred Bunting is in Newcastle with wife Eliza ( incorrectly entered as Bankins)
They have no children on the Census so may be recently married. In 1881 they are living in Middlesbrough with 6 children eldest Hannah M age 9.
He was born in Bristol and Eliza was born in London. I have seached but am unable to find a marriage. He was a Scale Maker.  Eliza's Surname may have been Cray - I found an Eliza Cray with a father George who was a scale Maker .
I have all the census records but to be absolutely certain I have the right Eliza I need to find the marriage   probably in Newcastle upon Tyne.

I hope someone may be able to help.

I think to be sure you have the right Eliza, you really need one of the children's birth certs which will give you Eliza's maiden name.
Edmonds/Edmunds - mainly Sussex
DeBoo - London
Green - Suffolk
Parker - Sussex
Kemp - Essex
Farrington - Essex
Boniface - West Sussex

Thank you for your reply and advice.
As it is not my direct ancestor i really did not want to buy a birth certificate. i just thought someone perhaps could see the marriage where I have failed to do so.

regards
Tina

Hi Tina

There is marriage of an Alfred Bunting in the December Q of 1867 in Houghton (le Spring).  One possible spouse is Elizabeth Downen.  It seems likely that that this is your couple.

Hi Pauline  :)

That marriage is on Family Search. Alfred is only 21, i.e. born in c.1846.

The Alfred that romanby is looking for was born c. 1841.

I suspect the Alfred Bunting who married Elizabeth Downen is to be found in Ludworth in 1871, as William Bunton aged 24, with wife Elizabeth and daughter Mary, RG 10 / 4969 / 23 / 11.

I agree with lizdb that the only really conclusive way of finding Alfred's wife's maiden name is to purchase the birth certificate of one of their children.

I think the only way to find out her maiden name conclusively is to purchase a birth certificate. Anything else is just guesswork  :-\
