thanks nanny jan, i was sitting looking at the freebmd results for my wells children, which didn't have that, but as soon as i narrowed the years in the search it showed up.  Firstly he has to be his son, and secondly he dies in exeter which is where my aunts, also wells are from.  If i could find the young fella's 1911c that should be all of them hopefully.

thanks for your help

Not necessarily his son but probably connected to the family........a nephew or cousin?  :-\

thanks for your help folks. dad will be able to go visit his gran's grave for the first time, and i've got a big hollis family to work through.  I never did find their 1911c, so perhaps it's hiding under a typo.

yes i saw this, i thought initially it was alfred with mabel bellinger but the ages and marriage date are all wrong. The census has mabel as the wife's name and all three bn southampton, which i've checked it does say.  i can find neither alfred birth for southampton, the ages for the adults vary by a couple of years, and the moulder occupation is interesting.
I'm trying to think what else i could rule out or find out about them that might say their names?  i suppose i should check for births in coventry.

Yes I checked that too because the couple you mentioned with a Mabel were married in 1898 longer before 1911 than this couple who I think said married 3 years.  Plus as you say ages were wrong.

Having said that I don't see the younger Mabel marriage.

potentially they may have only been up there a few months, with alfred and jean both registered in south stoneham with about 18 months gap, then they are unlikely to have had a child inbetween. Sorry but i thought jean was bn later than that.

looking at that southampton death now in 1829 for A A Hollis, aged 43, worryingly that does tie in with the age on the census for the southampton bn alfred hollis.  will have a look at the papers later for a death notice.

OK the IOW one I found with father Jacob who was an apprentice moulder is on a family tree.
First child is down as Alfred Jacob born 1910 and it does link to the census we found boarders in Coventry.  However Mabel isn't Mary so still doesn't make sense.

Alfred Jacob Hollis Mar 1910 S Stoneham

They could have just said born Southampton as the largest place  :-\

South Stoneham registration district covers many places which are considered to be part of the city of Southampton.  Have a look here:

http://www.ukbmd.org.uk/genuki/reg/districts/south%20stoneham.html

and

http://www.genuki.org.uk/big/eng/HAM/SouthStoneham/index.shtml

As you can see, around 1909 some areas were moved from South Stoneham to Southampton.

If someone gives a large city as a birth place, it is always worth checking exactly how many registration districts cover the city and what they were before discounting information because it doesn't quite match.
