Help with a Will dated 1635
« on: Wednesday 18 September 13 04:33 BST (UK) »
Hi Rootchatters :)
I was wondering if someone might be able to help me with this Will... I am going cross-eyed. It is the will of John Bawdon of Wendron. I am most interested in what it has to say about Bennett Bawdon, especially if it mentions where he was living.
Please??
Thankyou so much!

Here is the bulk of the second image.  Someone more expert with numbers will have to contribute the exact value of the bequests to the churches.

It[e]m the rest of all his goods & chattells whatsoever hee gave & bequeathed unto Thomas Bawdon Bennett Bawdon & Thomas Rowe equally to be divided betweene them and appointed and willed them to pay to his [sister?] Katherin Bawdon Ten Shillings  And to the pa[ri]she Church of Wendron [an amount of money] And to the pa[ri]she Church of Stithians [an amount of money] and made the said Thomas Bawdon Bennett Bawdon & Thomas Rowe his executors in the presence of us Hereunder written

the Signe of [Francis?] [Williams?]
the signe of Tho Rowe

Here is the bulk of the first image.  Ditto regarding the numbers.  The name I have transcribed as Deacon is wrong but I'm not sure what it is.  Someone else may have a better suggestion.

It[e]m he gave and bequeathed unto [Deacon?] Bawdon [his?] reputed sonne Two kyne and one mare and his [? - letters are missing] what [befor?] was in the Coffer and did appoint and [word or words missing] said [Deacon?] to [defray?] discharge and pay all Costs touching his buriall And also that the said [Deacon?] should pay unto Jane Bawdon his mother five shillings And to each of the children of Thomas Bawdon [an amount of money] apiece And to each of the children of Bennett Bawdon [an amount of money] apiece

Part 1
I think the name is written Wearen, perhaps a variant of Wearne.

Two kyne and one Mare and his Coff(er and)
whatsoever was in the Coffer and did appoint and (name? the)
said Wearen ...

children of Thomas Bawdon xij d apiece
children of Bennett Bawdon xij d apiece
(12 pence)

=====

Part 2
Wendron - vj s viij d (6 shillings 8 pence = one third of a pound)

Stithians - iij s iiij d (3 shillings 4 pence = one sixth of a pound)
