Lovely to get so many details on a headstone but if my maths is correct then Jane was born c1862 (not 1867 as in the original post)- if the headstone is correct then Jane was born before the start of birth registration.

However, the church records may shed light on the family. Baptisms start 1836 but mothers may or may not be listed in the record for a child's baptism.

Thank you Maggieblue, I did find that information online, trouble is I had forgotten where, but was so much information I couldn't believe it.  Tried to follow Minnie but looks like her name was Mary. In 1911 Jane's mother Nancy(Agnes) had a Minnie Stevenson living with her in Scotland.  I thought another link, though I don't know who she belonged to as yet.
Don't know where the name Linton would have come from so not looking good, also the birth date as mentioned by Aghadowey, though I tried to ignore that as they do not always have right ages.
Will follow up on the Linton name, that might squash that line for me.  Knew that I found all the information too easily to be in my family tree.
