Barracks in Stockport

Wonder if anyone can give me any information on Barrack Hall Street in Stockport or the army regiments who were stationed there?  Is it still there?  Are there any photos etc?

I have found a forebear who was living there in 1851 and serving in the 50th Regiment.  Does anyone know if it is possible to look at records of regiments?

According to the 1851 census, Edward Sweeney was born in Ireland and was 24 years of age, so I am looking at about 1827ish for his birth.  He was a private in the 50th Regiment.

I also have an Edward Sweeney living with my family (all born in Ireland) in the 1861 census who is a "Chelsea Pensioner".  This could well be one and the same although at this time his age is given as 43.  Now if the age  had been transposed and had actually been 34, this would fit the Edward Sweeney in the 50th Regiment above .....

I think I have found the death of Edward mentioned in the 1861 census so if I send off for the certificate that might prove my little theory one way or another!

I'm looking for info on a Thomas BEARD who on his marriage cert said he was a soldier in Stockport in 1799, when he married Jemima Pickring/Dickring in Stockport.   

Would TREVOR [t mo] be able to look him up for me please?   We believe he was born in Longhope, Gloucs around 1776.

so sorry for not getting back to you sooner , well I,ve checked for Edward Sweeney and derivatives born 1827 or 1818 but can,t see a connection in pension records if you could find a place of birth in Ireland it may pos help but more importantly I can,t see any records that may fit for the 50th foot .

again can,t find any Thomas beard record born approx. 1776 stockport even if there were it wouldn,t amount to much as the early records that exist don,t have hardly any info on them .

I also have an ancestor in the Barracks at Stockport in 1839. He was William Meakins, a Private in the 86th Regiment of Foot and had a child baptised in Stockport Cheshire on 7tht April 1839. On the baptism, his occupation was Private 86th regt and abode was just Barracks.
I have his Chelsea Pension papers showing he joined in Worcester 1829 and discharged in 1854 as a Hospital Sergent but am trying to figure out where he married and where this child may have been born. [maybe Ireland?]
He went out to India about 1841/2, stayed there until 1854 and several of his children were born out there.
