June, I have Charles and John Duncans in my extended family tree.

Charles (B 1800 in Kintyre, D 1876 Clyde Bank Cottage, Renfrew) is shown on the 1851 census as being the Superintendant Carpenter of Clyde Trustees Works.  He had a son Charles (b c1837 in Glasgow, according to 1841 and 1851 censuses.  I have no other information on him as he not in my direct line.

Charles (b 1800) also according to 1841 census also had a 7 mth old son named John. He is not listed on 1851 census. John married Mary Pride in 1865 in Renfrew.

More details on this family can be found on my Blog at http://campbeltownduncans.blogspot.com/2015/05/charles-duncan-1800-1876.html

As Skoosh has indicated you could put a query on  the Kintyre form website, but I have had no luck there.  My information has been obtained through the Scotlandspeople website

I have had a quick look at your blog Stuart and it has definite possibilities. You have a child named Elizabeth Grant Duncan detailed.

The New Zealand family had children:  Alexander, Alexander, Christina, James Grant Duncan, William Duncan, Helen (Ellen) Grant Duncan, Mary Duncan, Charles Duncan, Peter Duncan, Peter Duncan, Christina Duncan and Peter Duncan.

Thank you I will study your information further this evening.

Regards, June

Hi June
I should have mentioned that the Uncle who was a Ships Mate according to the 1851 Census, name was John Scott (D bef 1881 when his wife is a shown as a widow on census) who had married Janet Duncan. They had one son James (B abt 1837).
