Battle of Waterloo

I'm not sure if I'm on the right board or not.  I am looking for information on Thomas Holding born Dumbarton,Scotland in 1787.  He was in Woolwich, Kent when his son John was born.  I would really like to know which regiment he would have been in, a Scots one I should think.  Also which battles, the Napoleonic wars were on - the battle of Waterloo was 1815, and I think he served in that, and also served in America.

There was another son William born about 1816 in Cheshire.  Thomas was given a Chelsea pension, but as an 'out' pensioner, never actually lived in the hospital.  Any information would be super, as if I can find what regiment he was in, I can go about finding his army records as he was on this pension.  He must have been posted at some time in Cheshire, and then in Woolwich.

He could have been in Woolwich for two reasons...

1) He was in the Royal Artillery.

2) He was in another regiment and was being transported abroad by going through the docks at Woolwich. Or was perhaps billeted in the area.

If he served in America then it is most likely he fought in the War of 1812 between Britain and the United States. This is a good website http://www.warof1812.ca/charts/regts_na.htm that gives details of the various regiments that served in the Americas at that time.

You could also check his army record held at the National Archives at Kew.

and you will see on the postings for 28th Dec last a post by Mike Ryko. He says he has a database of all British soldiers who took part in this battle and will do free lookups...

A huge thank you as your reply turned out to be the correct Thomas Holding.

Is there any way I can find out from his army records if he served in the American war, the Napoleonic War and the Battle of Waterloo (tried the Mike Ryko site Leofric, but it has 'collapsed' unfortunately and I can't contact him for Waterloo). Thomas Holding was injured in one of them, hence becoming an out Chelsea Pensioner.

I'm a complete novice when it comes to the Armed Forces I'm afraid.

su,at the end of the napoleonic war we were at war with america,its likely the ref to america means north america[canaada]quite a few regts served there,do you know which part of cheshire he was living in,mack
