Jones family
« on: Friday 13 September 13 20:19 BST (UK) »
Hi I am looking for some information on my Husbands Grandmothers side and we haven't got a lot to go on. I know her mother was called Hannah Lyall maiden name Jones  who was born around 1897 I think in the Durham area. She died young when her children were young. We do not know anything about her family I would love to know her parents and siblings names and where they came from and if I can find out where the Jones name came from cause I was wondering if they came from Wales as it is popular there. Anything would be grateful

OK going to be very hard without you buying that marriage cert to find out who at least her father was?

:) Not the way forward, to go backwards!

As in any hobby /research it costs money, you have got other than possibly Smith in the UK one of the worst surnames to research, sorry that cert is a necessity?

Thanks. Either that or speak to his Gran to see if she can remember if her mum had any brother or sisters or even if she heard of her grandparents names. Bit of a challenge as Hannah's daughter was only about 3 when Hannah died

Now that sounds a better course, I hope at least her siblings and where they came from would give a guide, but failing that I'm sorry, the marriage cert is the only route, but with so many potential Hannah Jones with father ie George, a very dificult challenge!

See what you can find out, but believe me I do feel sorry for you, as on my Welsh side, it was a nightmare!
