I am hoping someone can help me, my partners great granddad, William Charles Adams 1892-1977. He was in the Kings Royal Rifle Corps and his regiment no. was G/9608, Ive found his medal card, so I know he achieved 3 medals. The Silver War Medal, Victory and British, but that's it ...... now ive drawn a blank. I know he didn't die in the war and I know he came back home safely. But that's it........I just would like to know a bit more about him.

I am going to ask a moderator to move this to the special ARMED FORCES WW1 Board where there are lots of experts who may be able to add more.

In the meantime - can I ask how you know you have the right medal card as there are quite a few William C Adams listed... Do you have his medals or papers with a service number on, or photos of him to show he was in King's Royal Rifle Corps?

Also you say the number is G/9608 - but looking at the card I think you mean for William C Adams KRR it actually says C/9608. Is that the one?

I know we have the right card as my father in law to be has the medals to go with them too. and a copy of the medal card. I then found the same medal card on line. What does confuse us, is that although we already have a copy of the same medal card I found, kept with the medals, on the back of one of the medals, there is a different number stamped on it....B1869, so again we are completely stumped!!! does that mean the medal card that was with the medals and the one I found on the internet is not the right one?

Is it on the back of the SWB If so they were all individually numbered and should marry up with the Silver War Badge Roll on ancestry

Edit...yes it is just looked....he is listed as will chas Adams depot KRRC enlisted 22 Nov 1915 discharged sickness in 1918

Discharged due to Illness.....hmmmm wonder what that meant .... would that me ill from an injury? He didn't die till 1977! Does anyone know if I can find out this info?

Having no luck finding anything more about William, and its going to be another month before I can get down to Kew 

On another note Im now trying to trace his son George Willam Adams 1927 - 2005, he was a ammunition runner during the second world war, but unfortunately we don't know which regiment he was in or anything.... we cant find any medal index card..... its so frustrating!

WW2 Service records etc are still with Ministry of Defence you can apply for his record it will cost 30 pounds you have to supply death certificate
There is a long wait.

Ref Charles there may be nothing else at Kew surviving records are on ancestry so his may be burned.

Thanks Ady..... think that is going to have to be my next port of call!!!!
It never crossed my mind to ask him what regiment it was when he was alive....!!
