Arthur Stuart A. TURNER
« on: Tuesday 10 September 13 10:47 BST (UK) »
Having reached a dead end on my side of the family, I am turning my attentions to my husband's family.  It seems that his greatgrandfather might have come from Glasgow (according to a Canadian census report).  His name was Arthur Stuart Alvin (or Albin) Turner and I believe he was born in 1893.  Can anyone help me find any information about him and his family?

It was the 1891 census for Quebec.  His wife's name was Mary.

Oops, you're right I did.  3 generations of "Arthur Stuart Turner"s has me confused.  Not an original bunch.  His birthdate is showing, on someone else's family tree on another website, as 9 June 1893.  He died here in the Montreal area (Verdun) in 1953.  There seems to be a plethora of information to be found on the family while they lived in Canada, thanks to wonderful record keeping in Quebec, but we know nothing of their time in Scotland.

That might be the tree I saw.  I am hoping to find something more reliable than someone else's tree, just because last year I was thrilled to find a slew of info on someone's tree and then found a 3rd person, with the same family, whose information suddenly strayed away from what we had.  I'll double check the tree again, however, in case it can at least point me in the right direction.

Hello All,

The census 1901. supplied by Monica, is the correct family ie Joseph Turner, with wife Ellen Morrison Albin, Ellen, was born 10/Sep/1867. Bridgeton, Glasgow, to parents William Albin, and Mary Higgins.

William Albin, married Mary Higgins, 17/March/1865. in Calton, Glasgow.

You will notice on the census Joseph Turner, is a Hairdresser, well i am quite sure this is how he met Ellen Morrison Albin, because Ellen's, father William Albin, was Hair Cutter, and Musical Instrument Dealer, who employed four men in 1881. at the same time Joseph Turner, is a young Hairdresser, living in the same area.

Joseph Turner, was born 01/ June/1866. Dromore, Tyrone, Ireland, to parents Joseph Turner, and Anne Black.

The Young Arthur Turner, aged 8 on Monica's, 1901 census appears to have been born Arthur Stewart Turner, 1893. Anderston, Glasgow.

The name Stewart, seems to come from Ellen Morrison Albin's, grandfather who was named Stewart Albin.

Regards,
Jonn.
