Old watercolour of 'Bee Hive Inn' in Whitley Bay?
« on: Sunday 08 September 13 14:33 BST (UK) »
Any help would be much appreciated.

I would like to find out the location of a watercolour painting I'm thinking of buying.
The inscription on the back of the frame says  'The Bee Hive Inn, Whitley Bay.

I'm curious to know if the building is still standing, and where..?

Thank you .

Thank you for that information. :)

Yes, that's the same Inn.
The article mentions that it became a pub in 1896...
I wonder what year it became the 'Bee Hive'..as the building in the painting appears to be fairly old. ?

It is shown as The Beehive on the 1860 OS map at http://www.old-maps.co.uk/index.html Put the OPost Code NE25 0SZ in the search box.

Hi again

The Chronicle article just  says that it was built in the 18th century, so not sure what it was before 1896  :-\

I pass by quite often when going to the coast - maybe there's some more local history hidden in Google - will check  :)

Following Stan's map refs, it looks like it's called Clarks House back in 1841 HO107/820/17/49/3  occupied by a Thomas Finley, publican

Note that he's not an Innkeeper.

So what's the difference between a publican and an innkeeper?
Nostalgic memories from your Googlemaps ref., Stan.
Knott - Northumberland; Yorkshire (?Bridlington.)
Fenwick, Johnston - Northumberland.
Dixon; Hutchinson - York.
Shaw - ? Glasgow
