Bryn Gwilym, Llanrhos
« on: Sunday 08 September 13 14:07 BST (UK) »
A lot of my Welsh ancestors were blacksmiths and for many years, early 1800's until 1861 lived, worked and died at Yr Efail, Marl Lane, Llanrhos.

I have discovered one of the sons of my g/g grandfather  died in 1923 and his abode is listed at that time as Bryn Gwilym,  Marl Lane, Llanrhos.  Does anyone know if this is/was a house, whether it is still there, would it show up on any maps of that area and if so, where could i obtain a map etc.  I would be very grateful for any information.

Sue

Hi

If you go to The Royal Mail, postcode finder http://www.royalmail.com/postcode-finder

...and enter Bryn Gwilym and Deganwy, you should get the address as Bryn Gwilym, Marl View Terrace, Deganwy. This is just off Marl Lane so it could well be the same house.

On the 1901 census it is at RG13/5289/66/32 occupied by William Jones, farmer

If you have Google Earth there is a property at the junction of Marl View Terrace and Maes Glas which has a sign over the door which I think says "Bryn Gwila".I wonder if this is it(I know the address searches as per Gadget and Hanes Teulu give Bryn Gwilym,as does www.old-maps.co.uk)
Use Marl View Terrace as the search term, drag the orange "street view" icon to just inside the lower right junction and then use the top compass to swivel left. This should present a stone building with a white porch and green front door.Use the magnifier to view the name plaque.

Regards
Roger
