Tapper/Norris
« on: Friday 06 September 13 06:12 BST (UK) »
Seeking info on Daniel Tapper and Ann Norris.  They were married in Childe Okeford, Dorset in
March 1823.  Daniel was born c1798 in Dorset, the son of Joseph Tapper and Sarah (possibly).
Ann was born 1804 in Childe Okeford, the daughter of Thomas Norris and Jane Lambert.
They arrived in Western Australia in May 1830 aboard the "Rockingham", together with 3 children.
4 more children born in West Aust.
Does anyone know when and where both Daniel and Ann died?  It is possibly Fremantle  -  but cannot tie anything down with certainty.  Any help would be fantastic.  Thanks.   Jeddah.

The Perth Gazette and Western Australian Journal (WA : 1833 - 1847)
Saturday 7 July 1838

Daniel Tapper was placed at the bar, charged with larceny of a china bowl, the property of Mr. Anthony Curtis, of Fremantle, storekeeper. The prisoner stated, in his defence, that he found the bowl in the road outside Mr. Curtis' house ; Mrs. Curtis, however, identified the property, although broken whilst in the constable's hands, which was taken from a shelf in a room the prisoner had oc- cupied only a quarter of an hour prior to his apprehension.
Verdict—Guilty. Sentence—6 calendar months' imprisonment.

Still trying to find their deaths.

Birth Date   1841

After doing some googling a lot of trees have Daniel dying in 1847 in Western Australia.
Im wondering if his death went unregistered and maybe the cemetery didnt keep burial records back then, hence not finding his death in the records.

Yes there seem to be some well-researched trees which have Daniel dying in 1847 and quoting the "First Families of Western Australia" as their reference.

Here is one example which may help ...

Re Cemetery

Fremantle Cemetery was first established in 1899. The minutes of the first Board Meetings are dated 24 June 1898. etc etc etc

Fremantle Cemetery was preceded by Skinner Street Cemetery (now John Curtin Oval) 1852 - 1899 and Alma Street Cemetery (now Fremantle Primary School) which closed in 1855.

So who knows where they were buried  ???
I havent searched WA a great deal so im just hanging out with google  ;D

OH maybe Daniel is here

East Perth Cemetery
East Perth Cemetery was the first burial ground in Perth with interments commencing in 1830. Early settlers and pioneers were buried there until 1899 when Karrakatta Cemetery opened. Burials of descendants of these early pioneers continued until the mid 1920s.

A three volume work about this site, East Perth Cemetery: resting place of Western Australian pioneers, by James A Richardson (Q 929.5 RIC) provides useful details of the cemetery and people buried there. There is also a microfiche index of East Perth burials which was compiled by members of the Western Australian Genealogical Society (WAGS).

Here is the death of one of their daughters Mrs Rewell, who was born here shortly after parents arrival making her one of the oldest pioneers.

From WA BDM I see she was Sarah who married George Rewell in 1848
