southsea death 1905. obituary?
« on: Wednesday 04 September 13 22:47 BST (UK) »
hi i'm just going back through some of the things missing from my tree, my good old great grandfather jacob perry (65) died on 28 nov 1905 at 57 francis ave, southsea.  When i look on the bna for hampshire papers they stop at 1900 ish.  Does anyone with hampshire experience have any idea where i might look for an obituary, i feel hopeful he would have had a line or two being a naval pensioner.  Do you know if there are later papers for 1905 but perhaps they haven't been digi'd?

appreciate any help thanks

I would assume that the Portsmouth Evening News would cover that area. I can't see anything online so you may have to try contacting them.

Have you tried contacting the Portsmouth Records office to see if they hold copies of old Newspapers?

yes i'm waiting to hear back from them, i think they'll do a half hour search for free and then you have to pay. I've got the date so hopefully it should be easy to check.

thanks

I'm away at the moment, but if you can wait I will be back in a fortnight and will have a look in the Local History Section of the library for you.

hi thanks for the offer, sadly it looks like a dead end as the record office said they could find nothing in their usual research areas.

thanks
