Birth at Wickham Market Workhouse 1932
« on: Tuesday 03 September 13 16:27 BST (UK) »
I have recently purchased a birth certificate for a possible family member, the birth place is given as Plomesgate House, Wickham Market Road, I am presuming that this is the workhouse. On searching the internet I see that Ipswich Record Office holds information on the Plomesgate workhouse Births and Deaths 1914-1936. This particular family member was born in 1932 although I believe his parents married around 1927 ( there is a discrepancy in the mothers maiden name ). Could anyone help me find details of any Runnacles birth/ deaths  in the workhouse between 1927 and 1936.
Thanks very much for any help, I really would struggle with my family history if it was'nt for the very kind people on rootschat.
Best Wishes
Angela

have you seen this site www.workhouses.org.uk on the home page put plomesgate house in the search box it will show you what the building is like and the history of it . also just by putting runnacles in birth search and Suffolk and just looking for plomesgate births there are none for 1927 - 1 in 1928 - 1 in 1929 - 2 in 1930 - 1 in 1932 I won,t put up names in case some may still be alive .
regards
trevor

for those who know better I appreciate this is not a very scientific way of searching but just a test .

As a double check FreeBMD www.freebmd.org.uk records just 7 Runnacles births in the period you are interested in in the Plomesgate Registration District.  The mothers maiden name is quoted.

There are 3 deaths registered in the same period, eliminating 2 births.

& one marriage in 1927 that may be of interest Mar Qtr Plomesgate RD 4a/1504, which is probably the one you have found.

I have PM'd you some more info

Hi all, thanks for the help and advice. I was hoping that someone would be able to check the actual workhouse records to see what details were given about the family, if any. I have checked the other births in plomesgate around the same time but unfortunately none share the same mothers maiden name. I think I will have to purchase the marriage certificate of 1927 and see what information that gives.
Thanks again

Hi Angela

The original surviving records have been deposited at Suffolk Records Office

http://www.workhouses.org.uk/Plomesgate/#Records

I would suggest you contact them to establish whether they can be looked at, they are most probably closed until 2036 under the 100 year closure rules.

If you can prove that the person you are researching is deceased, they may be able to look at the records for you and supply you with transcriptions.
